Engines for every major make

Nissan's engine lineup is anchored by some of the most durable platforms in the Japanese automotive world, and we carry every generation currently on the road. The VQ-series V6 is the foundation of our Nissan inventory — the 3.5L VQ35DE and VQ35HR powered the Altima, Maxima, Murano, Pathfinder, and Quest for over 15 years, while the 3.7L VQ37VHR served the 370Z and G37/Q60. These engines are Ward's 10 Best winners for good reason, and with proper oil maintenance they can run well past 200K miles.

The QR-series four-cylinders are equally central to our stock — the 2.5L QR25DE is found in millions of Altimas, Sentras, Rogues, and Frontiers produced from 2002 through 2020. The newer 2.0L MR20DD powers current Rogues and Sentras. On the truck side, we carry the 4.0L VQ40DE from the Frontier and Xterra, the 5.6L VK56DE and VK56VD from the Titan and Armada, and the 2.5L QR25DE truck variant from the Frontier.

Every Nissan engine is an original OEM unit — inspected, mileage-verified, and ready to install with no core exchange required.

Common Nissan Engine Issues

These are the most frequent reasons Nissan owners need a replacement engine.

QR25DE — Timing Chain Stretch & Oil Consumption: The 2.5L QR25DE in the 2002–2017 Altima, Sentra, and Rogue is one of our highest-volume replacement engines. The timing chain and guides wear prematurely, causing rattle on startup that progresses to jumped timing and catastrophic valve damage. Pre-catalytic converter failure can also send ceramic debris into the cylinders, scoring the bores. A replacement engine with 50K–60K miles avoids both failure modes.

VQ35DE — Oil Gallery Gasket & Timing Chain: The 3.5L VQ35DE, especially in 2003–2007 Muranos and Altimas, develops oil gallery gasket leaks and timing chain wear at higher mileages. While the VQ35 is inherently a robust platform, the repair involves significant labor to access the timing components at the rear of the engine. A complete replacement is often faster and more cost-effective.

VK56DE/VD — Timing Chain & Secondary Chain Tensioner: The 5.6L V8 in the 2004–2015 Titan and Armada develops a distinctive timing chain whine from worn secondary chain tensioners. The repair requires pulling the engine from the vehicle. A drop-in replacement eliminates the issue completely.

Nissan Engine — Quick Answers

Is the Nissan QR25DE a good replacement engine?

The QR25DE is one of the most installed replacement engines in the country. When sourced in the 45K-65K mile range with no timing chain wear, these engines deliver excellent longevity. We inspect every unit specifically for the known timing chain and pre-cat failure points before shipping.

Do your Nissan VQ35 engines come with the exhaust manifolds?

Yes, our Nissan V6 engines ship as complete long-blocks with the exhaust manifolds attached. For the VQ35DE and VQ35HR, this includes the factory catalytic converter heat shields where applicable.

Can you match my Nissan engine to my CVT transmission?

All of our Nissan engines are OEM originals, so they bolt directly to your existing CVT with the correct flex plate and bellhousing pattern. We verify the engine production year matches your transmission generation to ensure full compatibility.

How common is timing chain failure on Nissan engines?

Extremely common — it is the #1 reason customers call us for Nissan replacements. The QR25DE, VQ35DE, and VK56 all have timing chain wear as a known failure mode at higher mileages. Our replacement units are sourced in the mileage range before these issues typically develop.
